Calvary Gospel Chapel was first known as the Portuguese Evangelical Church, established as a daughter church to the Plymouth Evangelical Church, on Easter Sunday 1927.  For many years it continued as a Portuguese church until the 1950's when many services were held in both Portuguese and English in order to effectively reach the surrounding community.

In 1961, when the church became independent, it decided to affiliate with the Assemblies of Christian Brethren and changed its name to Southampton Gospel Chapel.  In the 1980's a fulltime pastor and youth pastor were brought in.  The meetings continued to flourish as the Word of God was taught on a consistent basis and the youth were discipled in their faith.  In 1988 the church again changed its name to Calvary Gospel Chapel, in an effort to communicate a more biblical focus.

Calvary Gospel Chapel has enjoyed a rich biblical heritage and solid biblical teaching over the many years of its existence.  It is our endeavor to continue the traditions of being a Christ honoring, biblically sound, discipleship focused church.
